My name is Ryan Boyer. I am a Christian, husband to Becky, dad to Luke, Lily, and Olivia, and a preacher of Jesus Christ.
I became a Christian on Jan. 25, 1998. By the end of that year, I decided to devote my life to sharing the Good News. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies from Florida College (1999-2003). During my time at Florida College, I worked with David Owen at the Brandon church of Christ (Brandon, FL), and one summer with Tom Kinzel at the Vivion Road church of Christ (Kansas City, MO). I was invited to preach full-time at the Collierville church of Christ (Collierville, TN) during the summer between my Junior and Senior years, after which, I was invited to come back after college. I was not there very long before Becky and I figured out we could not afford health insurance, so we moved back "home" to Kansas City, where I attended the KC PD Police Academy and worked as an officer. I didn't know it at the time, but this was a big part of my training to be a preacher. In 2007, I left police work to preach at the Raymore church of Christ (Raymore, MO), where I served until 2013. During this time, I earned a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Central Baptist Theological Seminary (Shawnee, KS). In 2013, we moved to work with the Ellisville church of Christ (Ellisville, MO) (www.SimplyChristians.com), where I gratefully serve to this day.
Becky and I have also worked with the Florida College Missouri Summer Camp (www.fcmocamp.com) since 1999, and have served as the Directors since 2014.
You will find three kinds of things on this site: middle school and high school Bible class material, preaching & teaching material, and highlighting material.
There is no end to curriculum plans for elementary-aged kids, but finding quality middle and high school material can be a chore. In 2011, I began asking myself what and how to teach my own kids and the other kids at church and camp. I only have 24 quarters from 7th-12th grades to give my kids everything they need before they leave my home. That's not enough time, so I wanted to carefully organize their classes to give them everything they need in a way that makes sense.
After working through several cycles of this plan and trying to find quality material to hit all of my targets, I, and several other contributors, have decided to write the material ourselves and freely share it. The goal is to give as good a foundation as possible to as many young Believers as possible.
During Covid, my preaching shifted from primarily topical to primarily textual. It seemed to me that what we needed during that time was Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, so I started in Matt. 5:1 and preached 34 sermons over the next 8 months. This is not a criticism of topical preaching, but I fell in love with learning about the text and letting God choose my next sermon and subject for me.
Although this should have come to me sooner, I have decided to start sharing my notes from my sermons and classes in the hope that more people will learn to love the text as God has given it.
I have always written and highlighted in my Bibles (except my daily reader). Several years ago, I realized that all of my markings could be sorted into a handful of categories, like structure, themes, words, good/bad, and the main point of the text. I assigned each of those categories a color, and after refining the system through a few different Bibles, it has solidified into something more permanent.
I decided to share my system with a couple girls, Emma and Julia, in different Bible studies. They loved it and made it better, so I shared it with others, who also found it useful. What sealed the deal for me was when I taught it to a high school class at church. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a room full of kids get excited about being in the text. Since then, I have tried to keep up with making videos or taking pictures of my highlights to help other people learn the text, remember it, and be able to share it with others.
